Bruce Lately

So I want to write down a few things about Bruce lately before baby #2 gets here.

Loves his baseball bat! he always holds it backwards though, and gets upset if you try to fix it for him
He loves it when David holds the ball in his hand for Bruce to hit, but ends up hitting daddy more often than the ball! we really need to invest in a Tee, because Bruce always wants ME to play with him, too, but I am wimpier than daddy, and Bruce has quite a strong swing!

Some of the things he says most often lately:

'Hel-me!' Which means Help me! He says this A LOT, usually when he is stuck on something he has climbed up on top of.
'hot dog'
'Peese!' - (please)

He never puts the S sound at the beginning of the word, always in the middle or at the end... for example:
"tusk" means "stuck"
'tesp' - which means 'step' - He will say this for each step we go down  when walking on stairs.

When we are driving anywhere and stop the car he will say "Here!" from the back seat in the exact same tone I use when I say "we're here!"

Loves to wave to people and say 'Bye!'

I will point to something and ask him "Bruce, what is that?" to which he always replies "That!" instead of telling me what the object is.

Anytime someone calls my phone or comes to the door, he gets excited and says "Daddy? Daddy?" until I show him it isn't daddy.

When he wants to show you something he will come take you by the hand an lead you to whatever it is. It is very sweet.

He spends a third of his waking time with his tongue sticking out lately. When people at the store or church talk to him, he smiles and shows them his tongue. He knows it is cute and gets a reaction from people.

Loves to swim, especially with his daddy! He is fearless, and likes to jump into the water for us to catch him.

He loves other kids, especially kids his age or older. He loves nursery as long as Dave or I are in there with him. He really enjoys the other kids, and is picking up on the routine quickly.

Has been boycotting naps lately. He will play in his room for over an hour, but won't sleep unless I lay with him and force him to stay in bed. He still needs the naps though! Once he is down, he will take a good hour and a half or longer nap.

Knows how to open doors now. He is so cute, when he wakes up in the morning (usually about 6:30 am these past few weeks) he will come into our room and join us in bed. Sometimes we are lucky and he will go back to sleep for another hour or so.

He has a few little yellow construction trucks he is obsessed with. They are the cheapest little trucks from the dollar store, but he LOVES them. He sleeps with them and runs them up and down the bed/pillows/wall making truck sounds. They are so cheaply made that the frontloader bucket falls off all the time, and he will run to me with both pieces for me to fix it.

His favorite foods lately are pizza and hamburgers. He will eat 1 1/2 hamburgers now a days and 2 big slices of pizza. It amazes me that he can fit all that food in his tiny tummy.

He also is on a bagel kick lately. He really likes the 'everything' bagels with onions and poppy seeds.

He is such a joy! He is growing so fast! He is getting long and lean. When I get him out of his room in the mornings he wraps his arms and legs around me and it always amazes me at how much he has grown! He is my little boy, no longer a baby!

Today was his last day as an only child. We went to the park in the morning and had pizza and ice cream for dinner. It is bittersweet to think that my time with him won't be the same anymore. I know we will all love this new addition to our family, but it will be an adjustment for all of us. I worry about having enough patience for Bruce when there is another little one needing my attention. Here is to learning on the job, right?
